Ask your questionMy cholesterol levels are normal. Do I still need this test?
Often, yes. This is one of the main reasons for the test. A normal total cholesterol result may still hide a pattern of small, dense particles that could indicate greater risk. Whether the test is suitable for you depends on your family history and overall metabolic health, which your doctor will assess during the consultation.
Does this replace my standard lipid panel?
No, it extends it. The standard values are still measured and still used. The subfraction analysis adds the detail about particle size, number and oxidation that a standard panel is not designed to provide.
Will the result tell me whether I need a statin?
It informs that decision but does not make it. Whether medication is appropriate depends on your overall cardiovascular risk, your history and your own preferences. It is a conversation rather than a number. Many results lead to changes in diet, activity and metabolic health instead.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. A doctor orders the test after a consultation, so it is chosen for your history and symptoms, not picked from a list. The same doctor then explains your results.
Where are the samples analyzed?
Samples are processed by accredited local and international laboratories, including partners in Australia, Germany and the USA, depending on which panel is ordered.
What happens after the results come back?
Your doctor goes through your results with you in person instead of emailing them. Together you agree a personalized plan, and the relevant markers are retested later to check it is working.
